This is the new ref number; get a little red '!' and "A file synch error occurred....". I've tried everything, including resetting the zotero server, resetting the synch history, and even using Zotero 3.0 beta. Get the same message, though it seems as if all the references have downloaded but only about 6 MEG of about 500 MEG of attachments have downloaded.

I'm thinking, since I'm running this off a flash drive, and my library is over half a gig, that this huge size may be causing problems on the flash drive. Is there a way to configure the Portable Firefox synch so the large attachments do not download there but do download on my laptop? That way I could keep the attachments on my laptop when I'm on the road and do not have web access, but could use the flash drive at work when I just need to catch the reference.

I've tried to "unclick" the option in Preferences to download attachments, but I think the settings on my laptop reset the Flash drive to download all attachments. Would the standalone version solve the problem?
  • Have you tried simply restarting your computer and trying again, repeatedly if necessary? You can follow the file sync progress by hovering over the blue progress bar.
  • Tried restarting several times, on several different computers. Zotero works on my desktop and laptop, but I cannot get it to synch on the Flash drive. For my work computer, I run Zotero off Firefox on the computer, but use the flash drive to store the files, because my individual server profile gets much too bloated if I store that many MEG of files, and it takes too long to load my profile when I log on. I also tried running Zotero through Firefox portable, which worked for a while, but then also stopped synching.
  • Can you provide a Debug ID for a sync attempt that produces the error?
  • Well, I seem to have found a sort of solution: I changed my laptop settings to NOT download pdf files, then did the same with Zotero in portable Firefox. This time the entire reference library downloaded EXCLUDING 90% of the pdf attachments (it shows the pdf icon but when I click on it I get a "File not found" popup). This is OK, because the synch is much faster now, and I really just need the references from PubMed, and I can log onto my university's electronic library any time I need the pdf or images. I am guessing that the size of the library was exceeding some sort of timeout function somewhere in Zotero; hard to say. I'll let you know if I still get problems, but so far I have synched twice without trouble.
