Qnotero for Mac or Alternative?

Qnotero looks excellent, just what I need. Is there something similar that runs natively on a Mac, so that I can have quick access to just the PDFs. It seems Qnotero might run on a Mac if all the dependencies are installed, but I'd prefer something that is developed specifically, though not necessarily exclusively, for a Mac.

Thanks

Such software probably does not exists. However, if you change the location of the Zotero data directory from Firefox profile to your documents folder, you can use Spotlight to quickly locate any PDF and achieve the same functionality.

You can also (without moving the Zotero data directory) create a saved search in the Finder for just PDFs in the Zotero data directory and then browse or search within that.

(And as a general fix, make sure "When performing a search:" in the Advanced pane of the Finder preferences is set to "Search the Current Folder".)
  • Dan, that is an _excellent_ and very powerful tip for Mac users. Thanks.
  • Help! I am in the middle of a paper being written in Word on a MAC. The icons for zotero have disappeared from word. I have reloaded both zotero for firefox and zotero for word a couple times, turning off and restarting as indicated yet an being told that zotero does not work with firefox 8.0. It has only been a week or so that i have used zotero so do not understand these interface issues.

Suggestions? Paper is due tomorrow and is very hard to not access my zotero files in word!
  • It seems like Zotero 2.1.10 isn't marked as compatible with Firefox 8. The quickest solution for you is probably to upgrade to the Zotero 3.0 beta: http://www.zotero.org/support/3.0
  • I'm pretty sure Zotero 2.1.10 is marked compatible with FF8.
There have been some occasions where that hasn't been picked up properly by people's set-up. You need to have "Update add-ons automatically" checked in the add-ons tab in Firefox. You can also use this add-on to overwrite the compatiblity settings:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/

Updating to 3.0b will likely fix this, too, but personally it's something I'd avoid immediately before a paper is due.

    Ah, it is: https://www.zotero.org/trac/browser/extension/tags/2.1.10/install.rdf

In that case, (re)installing Zotero 2.1.10 from http://www.zotero.org/download/ should work as well.
