Society of Biblical Literature (SBL): Journal Volume Number in Footnotes after the First Citation

In footnotes, subsequent to the first citation, Zotero includes the volume number of the journal with the short title. Is there a way to eliminate this?

E.g.
Cousland, “Dionysus Theomachos?” 82:541–44.

The volume number of the journal ("82") should not be included.

thanks.
  • Thanks for reporting - I can have a look. If you can provide the relevant passage from the SBL manual that would expedite things.
  • Thank you. SBLHS 7.2.23:

Journal articles in footnotes should appear thus:

Blake Leyerle, "John Chrysostom on the Gaze," JECS 1 (1993): 159-74.
    Leyerle, "Chrysostom," 161.

Whereas, Zotero produces the second one thus:

    Leyerle, "Chrysostom," 1:161.
  • thanks - I think the reason the volume is printed is that it's required for books - so I'll need to distinguish the two cases, will take a couple of days, remind me if you haven't heard anything in a week.
  • wasn't so bad - it's up now.
  • Thank you! But what do you mean by "it's up now"?
  • it's on the repository. Update the style by re-installing it.
  • I just updated the SBL style and am having this same problem.
  • Sorry.

    First citation:
Blake Leyerle, "John Chrysostom on the Gaze," JECS 1 (1993): 159-74.

    Current Short:
    Leyerle, "Chrysostom," 1:161.

Short according to SBLHS 7.2.23 (pg. 51):
    Leyerle, "Chrysostom," 161.
  • Could you confirm you still have this problem? This works correctly for me. Make sure you have the latest version of SBL and try this in a fresh document.
  • I am using SBL zotero style already for more than a year and I have never before experienced the problem discussed above until today. I am now experiencing the same as the authors above. After I encountered the problem, although I did not experience the problem before I have updated the SBL zotero style.

For the clarity, my problem is identical to described above:

    First citation
Blake Leyerle, “John Chrysostom on the Gaze,” JECS 1 (1993): 159–74.

    Current Short:
    Leyerle, "Chrysostom," 1:161.

Short according to SBLHS 7.2.23 (pg. 51):
    Leyerle, “Chrysostom,” 161.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem? Thank you very much in advance!
  • The style is now fixed. The updated version will appear on the repository within 30mins (check the timestamp). Update your copy of the style by clicking "Update Now" in the General tab of the Zotero preferences.

Styles also update automatically within 24hs for Zotero 4.0+
In an existing document, you may have to switch to a different style and back for the changes to take effect once the style is updated.
Any further problems please let us know & thanks for reporting
  • Thanks for fixing it so quickly! It is working again in the way I was used to.
