Understanding storage capacity

I am not sure that I properly understand how the storage works for Zotero and therefore how much extra I might need. When I checked the storage remaining I was at 35% but because I am testing this product to see how I like it, I clicked on the purge storage to see what would happen and while it reset it to 100% I am not sure what it purged as all of my records are still in tact. I am just wondering what exactly it is storing? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

It unassociates stored files from your account, meaning that you can no longer access them on zotero.org or sync them. The records themselves aren't affected—just the attached files (PDFs, etc.).

If you Reset File Sync History in the Sync->Reset pane of the Zotero preferences and then sync, Zotero will reassociate any files you have in that client with your account. (If you do this within a short period of time, you won't have to reupload them—they'll still be available on the server and they'll just be relinked to your account. Otherwise you might have to upload them all again.)

The 35% meant that 35% of your free 100Mb was taken up by a attachments that were uploaded because you enabled File Syncing. See http://www.zotero.org/support/sync for more info on the difference between Data Syncing (the basic option, always there) and File Syncing.
