create another child note from selected text

The only instructions I can find for moving selected web-page text I may want to use later as a quote is pertinent only to the first block of text to be grabbed:

Grabbing Text From Webpages

Because new research often incorporates pre-existing work, Zotero makes it easy for you to migrate quotable material from a web-based source into your notes. Highlight the relevant text, right-click (ctrl-click on the Mac) to open a pop-up menu, and select “Create Zotero Item and Note from Selection”. This will create a new library item with the selected text as an attached note. In this way, Zotero facilitates transcription as well as annotation.

But quite often there might be more than one passage within a web page that stand out upon my first read and that I think might furnish a good quote within a paper later on.

When such passages are discontiguous, is there a way to "add another child note to selected item"?

What I've been doing:

* highlight the second or subsequent passage I want to "clip" as a potential quote

* right-click and choose the Zotero -> Create Zotero Item and Note from selection

* move the note attached to the newly created item into position as an additional child note on the previously created item

* now delete the duplicate (new) item that had been created in this process.

I'm thinking there _must_ be a smoother way to do this but I can't find it in the docs or in this forum. Is there a better way? (If not, I will create a new post in the Feature Request category for "create additional child note from selected text".)

thanks much!

  • There is no such function (and I can see how it'd be useful), but the standard way to do this is still simpler than what you do:
    * highlight and copy the potential quote
    * In Zotero "create child note" for the correct item
    * paste the quote into the child note.
