How to delete a reference item ?

Being new to Zotero, I am having problem to delete a reference item. Tried to search this forum, could not find a solution.

First I selected an item from the middle panel from one of my collection, then go to the edit menu, but somehow the delete was grayed out. The above was true for both 2.1.10 version Zotero from Firefox, and Zotero Standalone 3.0b2.1

Anyone can help?

    If you want to delete an item from your Zotero database, right click on the item you want to remove from your database, and then select "Delete Selected Item from Library." It could not be easier. If you want to delete a reference in your document, delete the footnote number in the text. If you have more than one reference in the footnote, and you want to delete only one reference, highlight and then press Delete on the keyboard.

    Thans for your help. Finally I figured out, I am using a Mac, so I need to use Control + Click instead of right click to bring up the delete menu. Now my problem solved.
