would it be possible to add an item type for "projects" including fields for title, kind of project, abstract, start, end, duration, cooperation partners, client, project leader?

it has a lot of relevant discussion that clarifies what goes into adding new item types and also what type of information is needed before an item type is considered. If, after reading, you feel that you have a case for adding project you can post in that thread with the relevant information.

as a simple user and not english native speaker it is difficult for me to follow the discussions. Is there a german forum as well, that I have not found? It seems to be unusual to take reference to other projects (for example studies that are government- or EU-funded)and cite them, but thats what me and my colleagues have to do. Since your really great tool is well established for citing literatur it would be wonderful to not having to add project-references manually.

Deutsches Forum gibt es nicht - würde auch keinen Sinn machen, denn keiner der Hauptentwickler spricht deutsch. Hilfsfragen können (hier) auch auf deutsch sein, es gibt hier ein paar Power User die Deutsch sind oder sprechen, aber Feature Requests machen nur auf Englisch Sinn.

Adding item types is a complex process - they need to be added to Zotero, to the sync, then to the citation style language, then to citation styles, so the tendency is to be conservative with this. What type of situation are these citations needed for?

We need these citations writing applications for research grants, as well as for reporting to the supporting institutions. Also, in meta studies we refer to other projects or studies which must be quoted then accordingly. This applies to many research institutes, which write academically and also must raise funds.
It would be great to find an applicable item type in zotero.

It would be useful if you could supply us with some (online) documentation about how projects are exactly cited. Do you know if there are any guides online that give requirements on how projects should be cited? Alternatively, do you know where we could find some example documents that cite projects?
