ACS Nano Style Additions
I'm at the "Manuscript Accepted" phase of an ACS Nano paper, but the editor of the paper put additional restrictions on the bibliography format beyond the ACS Nano requirements in the ACS Style guide (and therefore beyond the ACS Nano style available in Zotero).
- He wants Journal Article titles, but he wants them to be in title case. His exact quote is:
"Add citation titles, in title case
Directions for title case:
• Title case (for citation titles): Capitalize all words, including subordinate conjunctions (as, because, although). Put prepositions such as “for”, “or”, “and”, as well as all articles in lower case. For hyphenated phrases, capitalize both words unless the second word is a verb."
- He wants the author list to be a maximum of 10 authors long with all subsequent authors terminated by an "et al.", except since "et al" is latin, it has to be italic. Furthermore, between the 10th author and "et al" there should be a semicolon as there is between all other authors.
Is there an easy way for me to modify an existing .csl file to do these things? If so, what would it be? FYI I'm a novice at editing styles.
Thanks in advance.

I might be able to squeeze this in in the next day or two.
But if you want to get started yourself, start here.
http://www.zotero.org/support/dev/citation_styles/style_editing_step-by-step
Start out with the American Chemical Socient with titles citation style from the repository, this will give you titles.
Then Specifically:
1. For text case: apply text-case="title" to every time you see <text variable="title"/>
2. For et-al, include et-al-min="11" et-al-use-first="10" in the <bibliography.... line
3. To put et al in italics, use <et-al font-style="italic"/> in the author macro, right after the <name .../> line. I'm not sure if the semicolon will appear before et al - I think it will, but worst case you'll have to use search and replace to add it in the end.
Let me know if that works out or if you'll need help.
I'm not sure if the editor-in-chief intends to have this as the requirement for all ACS Nano papers. I published there last year and it didn't have titles at all. I suspect he may want more detail because this is a review article instead of a regular letter, which may mean that it has a slightly broader audience who would find the extra info of the title useful in the bibliography.
