Problem referencing with an ISBN number

When I try to add a book («Designing clinical research», Hulley et al., 2001 edition) by its identifier (ISBN 0-7817-2218-7), another book is added to the library (with a related but different ISBN number: 9780781722186). Is this a common probleme? Can it be solved?

    Those are the same ISBN, just one is an ISBN-10, the other ISBN-13. If they are being used to refer to different books, then someone made a mistake in registering these ISBNs (which does happen).
