Artist field - imported, but how do I do this manually?

I just imported a citation from a library catalog for an illustrated novel, and Zotero gave me both an Author field and an Artist field, which is great. But I can't figure out how to do this manually, since the Artist category doesn't show up in my drop-down menu. I feel like I must be one click away from this feature which would be very useful to me, but I just ... can't ... get ... there ...
  • the fact that you got the artist there in the first place was an unintended quirk/bug. Artist only exists for some item types - maybe just artwork, actually - having an item with both artist and author might actually cause you trouble (e.g. when syncing).

If artists for illustrated books are actually ever cited, please provide an example from a styleguide and we'll see about adding artist for books. If you just need the name stored, use the contributor field.
  • O.k., so MLA has a few different solutions, depending on the situation, and though APA doesn't actually mention it in the manual, this question has been asked before and answered within some kind of APA bibliographic usage community (see links below).

In my case--and I'm sure this is common enough to warrant an Artist field, if you're willing to do that--the illustrator is indeed important to note as such. There are many cases where a given person can do the illustrations for one work but the writing in another, for example (Albert Robida being one major example, in my own research), and it would be not only important to note the difference in the bibliography, but to be able to cross-reference my bibliography and search it by the specific type of contribution a person is making (i.e., whether as author or as illustrator).

  • OK, I've opened this as an issue here:

let's see what others have to say.
  • Awesome! Thanks so much. I really appreciate the rigor and professionalism of the Zotero staff, ESPECIALLY considering that you do it all in your spare time ... !
