Zotero Database Deleted

Hi,

I installed the Zotero standalone a couple of weeks ago. A serious issue happened today. My local Zotero database was all empty. My database on the Website still has all my references, but I cannot sync it with the local one. Every time, I tried to sync and red mark showed up. It would not allow me to choose the remote object (marked as deleted) or merge the objects. The only option I have is to choose the local object, which is empty now.

I uninstalled Zotero standalone reinstalled Firefox, but nothing helped. Please help. I do not want to lose my Zotero database.
Thanks,

  • Don't just try to resync. Data doesn't just disappear.

These instructions are Firefox-specific and need to be updated for Zotero Standalone, but the idea is the same: find your original database.
  • That is, unless you somehow deleted all your data manually. Are you saying you're getting sync conflicts? That wouldn't happen with an empty database (and you would also have the Quick Start Guide in an empty database). What exactly are you seeing?
  • It looks like that my dataset is damaged. Here is what I saw:

    Alert

The Zotero database 'zotero.sqlite' appears to have become corrupted, and no automatic backup is available.

A new database file has been created. The damaged file was saved in your Zotero directory.

I tried to restore from the bak file and the same issue occurred. :(
    Thanks,

  • The most up-to-date database I have is on the Zotero Website. My local one is damaged. Is there a way for me to restore from the Web? Or is there a way for me to export from the Web?
    Thanks,

  • You can use Restore from Zotero Server from the Sync->Reset pane of the Zotero preferences. Be sure to back up your entire Zotero data directory before performing a reset (and you should always have automated, regular backups of all important data on your system).
  • Thank you Dan. This DB repair tool works for me. I got my database back. Thank you so much. Your response is so fast. I would recommend Zotero to all my coworkers.
