Chrome can't see Zotero

If I try to save a page snapshot in Chrome, I'm told (every time) "This item could not be saved because Zotero Standalone is not open or unreachable. Please open Zotero Standalone and try again."

Zotero's error upload dialogue tells me "No chrome package registered for chrome://browser/skin/preferences/preferences.css" (ref: 2066672568).
