Ordering/Exporting reference from libreoffice into zotero

Friends,
I am using zotero 2.1 with Libreoffice. It works wonderful. I have some queries which i have written below. Kindly write if there is any solution.

1) I know the order of references to be inserted into the manuscript. So i added all these references one by one to zotero, so that i can just select all and export as RTF. However zotero automatically changes the order after all references are added. How can i avoid this. I want to keep the order in which i added.

2) I used zotero to do in-text citation in Libre office. Now i want to create a library of the references inserted this way and import into zotero. Is this possible ?

Thanks in advance,
Bala
  • 1) you can sort in Zotero by date added (you can add the "Date added" column to the middle panel by clicking on the little table icon). You can then export as RTF - whether Zotero re-orders or not depends on the citation style.

2.) In 2.1 no. Might be in Zotero 3.0 and definitely will be in the future in 3.0
  • 1) Sorry for the delayed reply. I have around 200 ref's which i added to zotero at different time. Now i created a 'new collection' and added 40 ref's from it which i used for a manuscript in the same order as inserted in the manuscript text one by one. Then i chose the 'Date added' option to sort it. I find that the sorting (of the 40 refs) is based on the date i added to zotero and not based on the date i added those 40 ref's to the new collection.

This is true. Zotero thinks of "date added" as "date added to the library". Collections are more of a transient organizational thing in Zotero logic, so "date added to collection" is not recorded.

But unless you are using a very particular ordering method in your manuscript, Zotero should be able to sort the references for you - by date, title, author, publication, type, access number, etc.

Moreover, if you add references to a document using one of the hundreds of citation styles available, you can take advantage of automatic sorting in your manuscript too. Unless, again, you are using a very particular ordering method that is not used by any existing citation style.

What citation style are you aiming for? And is it not an option to use the word processor plugin instead of inserting the citations manually?
