Zotero Only Works the First Time After I Open Word. Why?

I'm running Firefox 5.0.1 on a Mac running OS Lion. The first time after I open up Word 2011 I can insert a citation like normal. The second time I go to insert a citation, the normal box pops up in Firefox with the list of citations, but I cannot use it. The cursor does not blink and I cannot insert words or numbers. Also, I cannot click on the citations to to the left-side of the box to make a selection. It is frozen.

I have reinstalled all of the plugins. Please help!
  • please always provide all version numbers (of Zotero and the Word plugin in this case) with error reports.
  • Oops. Sorry. Here is the info.

    Zotero 2.1.8
    MacWord Integration 3.1.6
    Python Ext 110710
  • This sounds like a window focus issue, and we may not be able to do much about it, since it likely reflects a bug in the Firefox code combined with something else specific to your system's configuration. If you're lucky, Zotero 3.0 will fix this, since it uses a different method for bringing the window to the foreground.

What happens if you click on another window and then click on the add citation window again?
  • The Add Citation window is still unresponsive when I click away and then come back.

It seems like there should be a way to fix this, because the system and programs I am using are not that unique. I would expect many other Mac users to be experiencing the same problem. However, this has happened on both computers after I installed OS Lion.

How soon will Zotero 3.0 come out? I never knew how much I loved Zotero until it went away!
  • I am also running Mac OS X Lion, and I've never seen this. Try disabling all add-ons except for Zotero, Zotero MacWord Integration, and PythonExt, as well as any custom themes or personas, and see if that fixes the issue. If not, try providing a report ID after re-triggering the issue, although I don't know whether it will contain any useful information.
  • Hey, I just saw that there is a Zotero 3.0 Beta. I installed it, and everything works now in terms of Word integration. Problem solved. I'm not sure what the problem was that I was having, but I do like the new stand alone program.
