Upgrade StorageWord plug-in fails to install on Word 2004 for Mac

I'm having problems installing the word plugin for zotero.
Have just (successfully) downloaded the latest version of zotero. am using Mac OS X 10.6.8, snow leopard, Firefox 5.0.1 and word 2004 for mac. Have followed all of your trouble shooting suggestions and some of those on the forum, to no avail. When I go into Firefox extensions, the plugin is listed and states it was updated today but under properties, it states it's not installed and there's no response to the 'install word add in' button. Have tried reinstalling it a few times but can't find it in any of the directories.... any suggestions?
