Expanded Title vs. Compacted Title

Most of what I have currently entered into Zotero are PDF files that I have downloaded and save on my hard drive. When they are attached to an entry, in the Title column, you have the title as you have entered in the right hand pane. Next to it on the left side is a + or - showing that there is a sub-item underneath. It seems that by default you always get the expanded version, i.e, the title with the sub-item, in the display. I would prefer to see the unexpanded or compacted version. Is there a way I can set this so that I only see the expanded title if I click on the + or -? Personally I find seeing the expanded information very distracting when I try to review the titles and select the one I want to review. Thank you.

If you press the "-" key on the keyboard it will collapse all items. Pressing the "+" key expands all items.

Note: I'm not talking about clicking on the + or - thingy to the left of the item, rather, the actual key on the keyboard.

Does that accomplish what you are wanting? As for changing a default setting, there might be a way, but I'm not aware of one.
