DOI translator not working on Archaeology Data Service

Report ID: 1217582307

The doi translator is reporting an error when I try to save a record from this site on the Archaeology Data Service: http://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/archives/view/ctrl/

Error Message:

Could Not Save Item
An error occurred while saving this item.

The doi is correct and resolves just fine when copied directly into CrossRef. I saw similar problems in the forums, but none of the fixes there seemed to help.

System Environment:
Firefox 5.0.1
Zotero 2.1.8

Thanks
  • nothing to be done - CrossRef doesn't provide the data - the CrossRef redirection and the metadata lookup aren't identical, so that happens at time, you can see for yourself - this is the answer Zotero is getting from CrossRef:
    http://www.crossref.org/openurl/?pid=zter:zter321&url_ver=Z39.88-2004&ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&rfr_id=info%3Asid%2Fzotero.org%3A2&rft_id=info%3Adoi%2F10.5284%2F1000230&genre=article&noredirect=true&format=unixref
  • Thanks for your quick response. Guess I'll just have to try to find the time to write a translator for the ADS.
  • that would certainly be great. You could also try to see if it's possible to convince ADS to just expose their metadata - that's both more sustainable (if, e.g., their site structure changes) and also applies more broadly, as other programs such as Mendeley would be able to access the data.
It's certainly worthwhile to write them about this.
  • I'll certainly try that as a first step. Thanks.
  • meant to pass this link along:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/dev/exposing_metadata
  • Thanks. I passed it along to the ADS maintainers and they said they're planning on exposing their metadata as RDF by the end of the year.
