"there was an error starting zotero"

I'm getting that error when I click on the zotero button in the status bar.

- I can open the preferences, but none of the buttons seem to do anything.
- My directory is listed as the following and I cannot change it: "AAAAAAE8AAIAAQJIRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDTWGuSCsAAAAIuiUGem90ZXJvAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAjMFgAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP"

Please let me know what to do. I have many references that I cannot get access to.

    Go to about:config in the Firefox address bar, find extensions.zotero.dataDir, control-click it, click Reset, then restart Firefox. You'll then be able to go back into the Zotero prefs and reselect your data directory.
