Upgrading to 2.1 ...side effects?

Hi,
Have been using Zotero 2.0.9 with Firefox 3.6 for Mac 10.5.5 for more than one year now.
Am having problems with syncing - it seems like only part of the library got uploaded online at the beginning and it failed syncing in the last year.
Also, re citation style, even if i choose one citation style, references are randomly quoted in the text (i.e. some with name and surname, some with surnames and comas, some others without comas).
My question is: if I update to 2.1 would these problem be fixed? but most of all, is there any chance that i lose items of my libraries in the updating process - since they are not properly synced online?
This is quite important since am about to submit a thesis :/
thanks a lot for your help!
Emanuela
  • If you're about to submit the thesis and 2.0.9 is serving you fine, don't switch yet. No need to tempt fate. But the switch should be perfectly safe, and it may even resolve your syncing problems, since the 2.0.x series hasn't seen any bug fixes since before the 2.1.x series was released.

The upgrade is done on the basis of your local library, so anything that you have on a given computer before the switch will be there when you start using 2.1.
  • thank you a lot for the prompt response!
i thought of upgrading in order to sort the citation styles that are not working properly (i.e. some of the Harvard ones) - I saw that the updated versions only work for 2.1.
but if it's better not to risk - will probably end up adjusting them manually!
    thanks again
  • If it's just a matter of small style adjustments, and you're submitting in just days or weeks, do it manually.

If you have 2 months or more, you should probably make careful backups of your documents and database (which you were making regularly already, right? ;) ), then install Zotero 2.1 and the updated word processor plugins. The improved performance and style support is certainly worth it.
