Document statistics, cited by, number of downloads

Google Scholar, SSRN, and JSTOR track the number of citations for each document, and SSRN and JSTOR track number of downloads. Is there an easy way to track these statistics in the database? A static field would be fine for me, but fields that could automatically update based on number changes at the above sources would be even nicer. Thoughts? Concerns? Is this already available and I missed it? Is this asking too much?

I know free software isn't free, and I appreciate the effort and resources plugged into Zotero quite a lot.

For Google Scholar, there is an add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/addon/zotero-scholar-citations/

But note that the automated requests can get you locked out of Google Scholar.

  • That's pretty cool, and it's unfortunate that its usage can get you booted. Call numbers are used to find books in a library, like the Dewey decimal system, so I'd rather not have that field used to tell me the number of citations. I'd prefer the field be available in the database exclusively for number of citations. I'm sure some kind of delay could be implemented to prevent Google from locking out someone from looking up this information less frequently than say, monthly.

I am glad to know I'm not the only one that asked for this, and knowing someone cared enough to implement a possible solution means that it is doable. Big thanks in advance! I hope I'm not being too presumptive! :)
  • Again, a static field is perfectly fine for now! :)
  • Note that I don't use this plugin: there might have been some improvements in the meantime.
