Zotero experienced an error updating your document this.registry.registry[item.id] is undefined

Hello,

I was working on a Word 2003 document for a couple of months
I use Windows 7 and Firefox 4
Everything worked fine until yesterday, when I got this message whenever I try to add a new citation :

"Zotero experienced an error updating your document this.registry.registry[item.id] is undefined"

report ID : 928308887

I tried to reinstall firefox and zotero with no success, also tried downgrading firefox to 3.6
However when opening a new, blank document it works fine
So I tried to copy and paste bits of my work into a new word document (and save it), but it didn't worked either

Thanks for your help

Nicolas
  • This will be fixed in 2.1.7 - if you can't wait until then install the branch xpi and revert back to 2.1.7 once it comes out.

  • Thanks a lot, I'll try the branch xpi
  • Hi,
I have similar problem but only with the citation styles which I download and instal from Zoter Citation styles repository. After instaling some style /for example Molecular Cell/ I wanted to format references according to Molecual Cell, an information "Zotero experienced an error updating your document. suffix is undefined" has been displayed.

I tried uninstal zotero from Firefox and word plugin and then instal again but the problem continue.

I use Windows XP, MS Word 2003 and the same problem I had with Firefox 4 and Firefox 3.6.

I found this problem yeasterday when I showed Zotero to my students and they had the problem described above. On my computer I hadn´t any problem because instalation of Zotero and word plugin was made in March 2011. Today I tried re-instal word plugin and since this I have the problem described above.

Can you help me with it? Hasn´t been word plugin on Zotero website changed?

Thank you in advance for any help
  • This currently happens with so called dependent styles - those are styles that are identical to "parent" styles and just contain a link to those styles - something is going wrong with that installation.
As a workaround, find the parent style:
If you open (instead of install) the style in Firefox:
    http://www.zotero.org/styles/molecular-cell/dev
    you'll see this line:
    <link href="http://www.zotero.org/styles/cell" rel="independent-parent"/>
it tells you that the parent style is "cell" - install that style and you're good to go - we'll try to fix this, but there is no difference between the two styles so for you it doesn't matter which one you have installed.
  • Thank you for reply, I see what you mean but parent style "Cell" isn´t in the repository.

It is strange for me that I downloaded Molecular Cell style a week ago and it worked without any problem. Due to my students' problems today I downloaded Molecular Cell style again and installed it (so I replaced old instalation by new) and since this time it doesn´t work. The same problem I have with other styles (for example Anasthesia, Acta Medica etc).
  • It's the same thing with all those styles - most medical styles are dependent styles (the repository allows you to not show dependent styles). Cell is called "Cell Journal" in the repository.
  • This is fixed for 2.1.7, which will be out very soon.
  • To adamsmith: thank you very much. I didn´t realize it can be as "Cell Journal", I know it only as "Cell". Once thank you very much for your help.

To Dan Stillman: great news, I am looking forward for it, thank you for information.
  • Hi,
I have the same problem with the style "british of journal cancer". I have found the parent style which is nature journal but the style is not the same. It's completely different for the presentation of the bibliography.
How do you find the solution ?

    Thank you
  • If the journal's requirements differ from Nature, see http://www.zotero.org/support/requesting_styles

If the parent style simply isn't loading, update to Zotero 2.1.7, which is out now. In fact, update to it anyway, since a lot of small bugs are fixed in the new release.
  • Thank you,

I have update Zotero to 2.1.7 version. Now I have a new problem when I apply cell journal style very similar to british journal of cancer style. An information "Zotero experienced an error updating your document. Impossible to delete the plage (in french but i don't know the translation in english).
  • adchauch, can you re-trigger the error and generate a report ID?
  • Hi, I'm trying to also change my manuscript citation style to Radiology. I downloaded the style but when I tried to apply it to my document, I also got the error message " Zotero experienced an error updating your document. Suffix is undefined."

I already tried to update my zotero to the current version, 2.1.8. That doesn't seem to change anything. Will someone please help me with this program? Thanks so much!

    Hi,

I'm using Zotero Standalone 3.0 b2.1, with Word 2007 on Win XP SP3. I am using a complex language (non-English) in my text.

After compiling my document as I was inserting a citation somewhere in the middle of my text, I received error "Zotero experienced an error updating your document". And after that I couldn't add citations anywhere in my document. To fix t his I tried several times but sometimes even all zotero add-ons in word stopped working and I had to restart zotero and word.

First I tried the usual trouble shootings. I tried reinstalling, Copying and pasting the whole document or just a paragraph in which i'd faced the problem. This helped on the first inserting citation but as soon as I wanted to add the second citation like 8 words away from the first citation, the same error appeared.

Then I tried working with zotero 2.18 and firefox and even on another platform (win7). I received the same problem again and again.

I tried OpenOffice which worked fine.

please help because this is my dissertation and at this point I am desperate and anxious about it.

    Thank you
  • baharmas, can you generate a debug ID for the error and send the smallest portion of the document with which you can reproduce the error to support@zot...org?
  • Simon, I did as you said, but the software couldn't send the report to the server therefore I sent a copy of the debug and my document to you via email. I just wanted to make sure you have received them.
  • Yes, I got it. I'll take a look in the next 24 hours.

    Simon
  • It looks like you ran into a bug in Zotero 3.0b2.1's embedded metadata feature. This will be fixed in the next release.
