Port forwarding?

Hi--I'm a writer and find Zotero a great way to organize web-based resources. I use Firefox as my browser on a Mac.

I have been frustated, however, by what appears to be some kind of port forwarding (I'm no techie, but have done the best I can to troubleshoot this) that often occurs when I open the URL for a website stored in Zotero: instead of going to the desired URL, Zotero kicks my browser over to my login page for a library I have electronic access to. I cannot reach the desired URL. This is so incapacitating that it has rendered Zotero practically useless to me. And--this port forwarding occurs even when I do not have Zotero open! I can't even log into Amazon.com with Zotero enabled without getting kicked over to my login page.

Any ideas out there on how to fix this?

    You're seeing this:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/proxies
it's usually quite useful, that's why it's on by default, but it's easy to turn off.

(and just for reference: this has nothing to do with ports - all of this runs through the standard ports for http an https - Zotero just inserts a bit into the URL to redirect you through your library, which may be necessary to allow you access to many gated sources).
  • Thanks very much, Adam. I have turned off proxies and the problem seems to be solved. Yay!
