Problem after upgrading to Zotero 2.1

Hi all,
After a lot of searching on the forum but with no success, I decided to post my problem in the hope that someone can help me out. After upgrading to Zotero 2.1 (and after our university installed Firefox 4.0), I tried to re-install the latest Word plugin. Before doing that, I erased the former plugin.

However, I still get this error message if I try to edit a citation:
'Your document must be permanently upgraded in order to work with Zotero 2.1 or later. It is recommended that you make a backup before proceeding. Are you sure you want to continue?'
If I click OK, I get the following:
'Item 1 in this citation no longer exists in you Zotero database. Do you want to select a substitute item? Clicking ‘no’ will delete the field codes for citations containing this item, preserving the citation text but deleting it from your bibliography.'

I guess the database can't be found anymore although it seems to be in the proper location (I checked whether the Zotero database is still in the correct profile, and it is; in a separate Zotero folder).

Does anyone know what to do?
I tried to re-start the computer, re-install Zotero, re-install the plugin... obviously I'm overlooking something.
Hope you can help me out! Thanks a million!
