Today I migrated Zotero to a new computer (OS is Win 7 Professional 64-bit, Firefox 4.0.1. loaded). Now I receive an error message every time I sync Zotero. Pdf files seem to halt the synchronization process. The error message tells me to check that the file is in use (it's not) and write-accessible it is). This problem does not occur on my old computer (also Win 7 Pro 32-bit). How might I correct this problem? Thanks!
  • As the message notes, "Restarting your computer or disabling security software may also help." You should also check the 'zotero' directory itself to make sure the Read-Only checkbox is empty.

    There's not really anything else we can tell you—Zotero simply can't write to the file, and syncing won't work until it can.
  • Dan, Before contacting zotero, I followed the instructions to restart the computer and disable security software, but the problem persisted. Per your suggestion, I opened the zotero directory and behold, the Read-Only attribute was checked! I unchecked it and have successfully synced now several times. Your are a hero. Many thanks!
  • Great. In the next version of Zotero that message includes the bit about checking the Read-Only attribute on the 'zotero' folder.
  • (Actually, it was supposed to in 2.1.6, but due to a bug it wasn't displaying the correct message on Windows. Fixed now in the latest dev build.)
