FEMS based journal

There is a little mistake in the FEMS based journal style, I think.
In my paper draft it says u.a. instead of et al., in the citations within the text

Example: (Jordens u. a. 2004). Is there a way to change that?

Regards

Charlotte

by default Zotero styles use abbreviations in the language of your client.
  • (@adamsmith: for the CSL 1.0 version of this style, we could set the default-locale to en-US)

@Rintze - yes - I guess that would apply to a lot of journal specific styles.
  • Hello,

I have a different problem with the FEMS-based style: instead of displaying surnames, it sometimes gives the first name of the first author or it gives initials (of one of the authors).

sounds like your Data in Zotero isn't in a good shape, you'll need to spend some time cleaning up authors.
  • I respectfully disagree and think this is a shortcoming of Zotero, please let me explain why.

I love Zotero because when browsing for papers, I can add them to my library with a single click. I understand that since my reference information comes from different sites, there will be variation in reference format in my library (unfortunately). However, it should be possible for Zotero to insert 'Jones, 2000' (FEMS format) into Word regardless whether the reference in my library reads 'Alfred T. Jones, 2000', A. T. Jones, 2000' or 'Jones, 2000'. At least, EndNote can do it!

    cheers, Michiel

The knowledge based article describes how to get Zotero to display just the last name in a specific style if you want that. Zotero's general behavior will not be changed, whether it's a shortcoming or not is a matter of taste. Endnote can't do proper disambiguation, so they don't have to worry about such details.

edit: Also, having different name formats in the library can lead to all types of other issues with respect to sorting, display of first names in the bibliography etc.
