Citations without brackets

Is it possible to include author/date citations without brackets, as part of a sentence; e.g. "...as shown by Smith et al."?

    Okay, thanks.

    What if I want to say "in 2009, Smith et al..." without the brackets around 2009?

    you would just add the citation to the bibliography using edit bibliography.
