Upgrading to Firefox 4.0

Hi, sorry if this is a stupid question.

I have Zotero 2.1.4, and am thinking of upgrading to Firefox 4.0.

When I upgrade to Firefox 4.0 will I have to reinstall Zotero (and other add-ons)? Should I back up first (apart from the fact that it's always recommended anyway I suppose).

Thanks,
Julian
  • no you won't need to re-install Zotero nor any other add-ons, as long as they're compatible with FF 4 (Zotero and most popular add-ons are, but a number of more obscure ones aren't).
For back-up follow your own advice.
  • Thanks much appreciated!

May I suggest that you do a short blog post, or something relatively visible, about this?

I get the feeling that it could be a common question. Also addressing the point that you need to have 2.1 installed first.

    Cheers,
    Julian
  • you need to have 2.1 installed first
No, you don't. Upgrading to Firefox 4 will automatically prompt an upgrade to 2.1 unless automatic add-on updates have been disabled in Firefox. And given that most people will be prompted to upgrade to Firefox 4, most people will end up with Firefox 4 and Zotero 2.1 without doing anything.
  • Also, Zotero works like any other add-on in this respect.
  • Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Like I said, a little proactive posting to tell users about this may be helpful. My first reaction was - 'Hmm OK if I install Firefox 4.0 I may have to reinstall everything, and I'm too busy at the moment to mess around with extra stuff, so I'll just postpone it.' Maybe others will think similarly.

Anyway, as usual thanks for the help and for Zotero, which is great!
