BIBSYS - more problem

I am using Firefox 4.0 (portable) and Zotero 2.1.1, and the latest fix to BIBSYS.js.

1. I search for a book using BIBSYS Ask
2. I open the preview of the item found and click the blue icon in the address bar to save it to Zotero. The item is save.
3. I open the search window at BIBSYS and search for a new item.
4. I click on the blue icon again, and Zotero save a the first book ones more, i.e. I now have to copies of Book 1 in my database.

I had the same problem in Firefox 3.6(15), but I cannot remember if I upgraded to Zotero 2.1 on that platform.
  • Additional information: If wait f.ex. 30 min., it saves the correct item. Therefore, it seems there is a variable or something, that is not reset, or a cache that is not flushed.
  • Can you confirm that this persists in the latest release of Zotero (2.1.4)?
  • Unfortunately, yes. I updated to v 2.1.4 and tried the following two links:

    http://ask.bibsys.no/ask/action/show?pid=042280982&kid=biblio
    http://ask.bibsys.no/ask/action/show?pid=040195732&kid=biblio

Black's law dictionary was save two times.

Additional information: Normally I connect to Internet via Checkpoint Endpoint connection and VPN to the server at work. If I disable VPN and connect directly through the WiFi router at home, Zotero works as expected.

It seems that the information downloaded from Bibsys are cached on the server at work and when Zotero asks for next item, the same information is provided from the proxy server.

As I said in a previous message: BIBSYS and Zotero work without a hitch until an update some month ago, also after my system was updated in September 2010. I think it was when Zotoero was upgraded to version between 2.0.7 to 2.0.9. But of course it can be that Firefox or Endpoint was upgraded at the same time.
  • I can't replicate the issue you're seeing. If it is really connected to how to connect to the internet, then you'll need to contact your network/system administrators about troubleshooting a cache problem. Zotero works just like Firefox in this respect-- we can't really do much about a misconfigured network.

I will report the issue to our IT department, but they will for certain just reply that Zotero and Firefox are not supported software, and that they cannot replicate the problem in Internet Explorer v 7.

I will update my reference database when I am outside the firewall at work.

Thank you for helping me; and for Zotero.
