No tab stops in notes? (text formatting)

I am using the new 2.1 on Firefox 4 and have a text formatting issue in Zotero notes. I have noticed that pressing "tab" moves the cursor to another pane instead of acting like the tab key in a word processor (which it did until now), and that if I manually enter a bunch of spaces, these are lost the next time I come back to the note. Everything will left-justify, in other words. Is this by design? It is undesirable when making transcriptions that must be semi-faithful to the original document in appearance.
