ebsco translator error (report # 749708844)

error report 749708844

When trying to import citations with either the list or individual record icons in Ebsco's ASC, received "could not save item" error message. Help!

Everything was ducky yesterday. Hoping it's a quick fix as we're in the middle of a week of Zot workshops.

Thanks!
  • I'm having the same problem, with Academic Search Premier (error report 1952174813)...and my Zotero presentation is in 13 minutes.

For me, too, it worked fine yesterday.

  • I can confirm this is broken.

For presentations, I'd suggest using/showcasing the export to endnote feature - if you select direct export to endnote in EBSCO and have the respective option checked in the Zotero preferences, Zotero will import the citations (without pdfs, though).

For dev: The error I get is
[JavaScript Error: "TypeError: postURL is null" {file: "file:///home/sebastian/.mozilla/firefox/wkxw8okh.default/zotero/translators/EBSCOhost.js" line: 0}]

this is trying to import some or all search results for "test" from ASP through EBSCO.
  • Also broken for individual items with the same error. e.g.

Tasdemir, Mehmet. “A Comparison of Multiple-Choice Tests and True-False Tests Used in Evaluating Student Progress..” Journal of Instructional Psychology 37, no. 3 (2010): 258-266.

  • Another confirmation.

    Here is the info:

Reports the following error: [JavaScript Error: "TypeError: postURL is null" {file: "file:///C:/Users/me/Documents/Theory/lit/translators/EBSCOhost.js" line: 0}]

All links fail to save, here is the URL of one of them:

I also recall a javascript update I received a couple days ago. As far as I remember, this worked fine with the update; I was able to translate just fine yesterday.

I really hope its a quick fix. I'm in the midst of dissertation lit review and would hate to have to hand enter all of the thousand or so articles I need to find. Give me back my Zotero pwease.

This appears to be due to some small changes on their side. Please go to http://github.com/ajlyon/zotero-bits/raw/master/EBSCOhost.js and save the file to the translators directory of your Zotero data directory (http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data).

It should start working again. If this works for you, please post here so that I can submit this change to be pushed to all users.
  • The github link returns a 404 error
  • Oops. Should work now.
  • Your solution worked AJ! Thank you very, very much.
  • No problem. :)

If others can confirm that this patched version is working reliably, I'll try to get this pushed to all clients ASAP.
  • is that translator for 2.09 or 2.1?
  • It should work for both. 2.1 issues are limited mainly to import/export translators.
  • works for me for individual and multiple items on 2.0.9
  • Committed.

Dan: Can you push this high-profile translator ASAP?
