File sync & Standalone
I am using Zotero for individual projects, but would like to start using it for group projects as well. Based on my reading of the Zotero literature, the only supported way to enable the group functionality of Zotero is to use Zotero's File Storage. Will this be true for the Standalone version as well? Also, where will attachments be stored when using the Standalone version. Currently they are stored in the Firefox Profile area of the computer, but I can't imagine this would be the case for the Standalone version. Does anyone know the particulars on how attachments will be stored?
For current group work, I have been using Dropbox to keep files sycned. And while Dropbox is a great tool for keeping files synced, it doesn't work with Zotero. And the problem with leaving Dropbox and storing everything in Zotero's File Storage is that (1) the cost becomes very high and (2) it becomes difficult to locate attachments when not accessing them through the Zotero interface (this is because of the random file names assigned by Zotero).
In the end, I am looking for an overall platform to move to. I need Zotero for individual work, for group work, and I have files/documents that have no reason to be in Zotero that I would like to sync with others. Any suggestions?
I know, the above represents a tall order. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Standalone isn't much different from regular Zotero - unless you link it to a FF instance of Zotero, it will create a Zotero folder on your system - where exactly depends on the OS - and save the files there - remember, you can change the location of the Zotero folder in the preferences. How syncing works is independent of standalone.
