"You cannot add files to the currently selected library" Error message

Hi
Can anyone help with this error message that i keep getting please. We are working in a research team and my colleague the group owner has shared our group library with me.
She has set our group library type as "Public, Open Membership" and she has made me an "admin" member. If i log into Zotero, i can see the group library/references she has set up. The problem begins when i hit the synch button so that the references can show up on my PC. It synchs for ages (its gone on for 2 days) but nothing happens. The group library folder is visible on my PC but there are no references in it unlike on the Zotero website's group library.
I then tried clicking on the "Create New Item from Current page" tool and got the above error message " You cannot add files to the selected library".

Please can anyone advise. I have not encountered this problem before when working with group libraries and having to share them with various people (but in those cases i was the "owner" of the group library".

Public, Open groups cannot have files.
