Word Plug-in Add Citation dialog customization

I attach pdf's of articles to a lot of citations, and I don't like the way they always show up in the "add citation" dialog in the Word plug-in. Does anyone know how to change this? Or maybe a better way to link the PDF's to the citations?

    if they're attached you should just see a + next to the article name and not the attached pdf (nor any other attached file). Is that not the case for you?

    btw. using the Zotero quick-look you can open the pdfs from the word plugin, which can be quite convenient, e.g. to check a quote or a page)

    No, that hasn't been the case. They're always "expanded," so that the little plusses are minuses. Technical language, I know. I'm using Mac Word 2011, if that matters.

    Yeah, I really like that functionality (opening the PDF's from the plug-in).

    that shouldn't be the case - I'm not sure what sets the default there.
    But you can collapse all items by pressing the - (minus) sign while having any item highlighted.

    They should only be expanded by default if you're viewing a saved search where the child items match the search conditions. Otherwise we're going to need to see a screenshot.

    Ah, I hadn't noticed that they only show up that when I'm searching. But that's the main way I navigate the library. It's not a "saved search," though, if I understand what that means correctly.

    I tried to paste a screenshot in here but apparently I'm not smart enough. What would that tell you? (The screenshot, not my inability to add it to the post).

    OK, right—same applies to a quick search.

    A quick search mode that matches only parent items is planned, though there's no ETA. But it would be available in the plugin window as well.

    (To post a screenshot here you'd have to upload it to a free image-hosting service and post the link here. No need in this case, though.)

    And just to be clear, those are full-text search results you're seeing.

    In the meantime hitting the minus key will hide them.

    I thought they might be full-text, since searching for an author brings up articles that cite her often as well. Kinda limits the use of that as a sorting tool, but there are plenty of other options for that.

    note that you can, e.g., search for an author by sorting by the author column and just starting to type (obviously doesn't work for 2nd authors, though).
    To be clear - I'm not claiming that this is a perfect solution, but it's a good workaround for the time being.
