File sync error 1525112496

Sync has not worked for me this week yet (Zotero is saying my last sync was 4 days ago). Whenever it tries to sync, the icon spins for a while and then I get an "Empty response from server" error. Neither reference or file sync is working. I have tried:
- Upgrading to the latest 2.0.9 dev version (I was using an earlier dev version previously following an earlier forum discussion solving a similar issue.)
http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/14478/file-sync-error-736785521/#Item_14
- Installing the stable 2.0.9 release
- Adjusting my proxy settings in Firefox (have tried a number of different settings here). Note that Firefox reaches websites fine and appears to have the proxy set correctly.

I am on a corporate network and behind a proxy, but this has been working fine for months, since my previous issue referred to above. Any thoughts on what could have caused this latest sync error would be much appreciated.

If it helps, I am unable to navigate to either https://sync.zotero.org/ or https://api.zotero.org/, I get the message "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at .....".
  • If you can't access the sites in the browser, that's probably an issue for your network administrator. The Zotero sync/api servers are now located at Amazon, so the network configuration has changed, but nobody else has reported problems accessing those domains.

You might try accessing the HTTP (rather than HTTPS) versions of api.zotero.org, sync.zotero.org, and zotero-2020850560.us-east-1.elb.amazonaws.com, but it's highly unlikely that this is anything we can fix on our end.
  • The IT team here can't think of anything that has changed our end in that period. I have tried accessing both the http and https versions of those three pages from both Firefox and Internet Explorer (IE is the officially supported browser on our network and should reach everything), with no success - Firefox "can't establish a connection to the server", while IE returns "Connection timed out".

When did you move to Amazon? If this was around 5 days ago it would suggest this issue could be related. If nothing has changed your end during that period it might be our problem.
  • If Zotero was previously hosted at the George Mason university, and has just recently switched to Amazon, there is a chance our network is trying to reach it through a high-speed inter-university link but no longer can because of the move. If so, the issue would be caused by the switch to Amazon, but be a problem our end - sounds plausible, but I need to wait till tomorrow before the right IT guy is here to test it...
  • Sunday morning. Did you have the problem before that?
  • It was not hosted at GMU before.
  • A traceroute to sync.zotero.org might be informative. (Start->Run->cmd, tracert sync.zotero.org might do the trick.)

No problem before Sunday. I'd say my computer last synced on Friday (5 days ago), and hasn't worked since returning to work on Monday. A traceroute does indicate that our network is attempting to use the KAREN high-speed academic network to access sync.zotero.org, this must have been able to reach wherever Zotero was hosted before but not Amazon.

Thanks, we'll hopefully be able to sort it out this end tomorrow.
  • That was the issue, all sorted now. Thankyou for your help.
