Chrome connector Zotero standalone

  • No... I never see the icon appear anymore for any sites.
  • I notice something, for the users where the saving icon doesn't appear [this work for me, in Chrome].

If Zotero StandAlone in Close, no icon appear.
If Firefox with zotero extension, no icon appear.

But, if one of them is open, then the zotero icon saving button appears normally for Google Scholar, direct links, and Google books.

I was having the same 'no icon appearing' problem; but this was the main issue.
  • @dacarras... I have opened Zotero standalone and then opened Chrome. I now see the Zotero icon appear when I go to PubMed.
  • Yes, Zotero must be open for the Zotero save icon to appear in Chrome or Safari.
  • I had the same problem. Standalone open, Chrome open in pubmed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed) - several tabs with different papers from pubmed. The first 3-4 papers save to zotero. Then it automagically stops doing it, the other tabs don't save, even if the zotero save-to icon in the address bar was showing on all of them. Click on it and nothing happens.
Reloading those pubmed pages and the zotero save-to icon disappeared.

I manage to fix this by just restarting the zotero standalone application (without need to restart Chrome!).

Does the fix works with you?

I am on Mac OSx 10.5.8 on Intel Mac; Google Chrome 11.0.696.25 beta; Zotero standalone 2.1alpha3; Zotero Connector for Chrome - Version: 0.9.1.
  • Can you provide a debug report for doing just what you describe (http://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output)? It sounds like Standalone fails to respond to the subsequent translator requests-- but it'll take a debugging report to figure out just what's going on.
  • here it is (not with pubmed as it didn't happen when I was ready to capture the debug. This happened with <http://stke.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/sci;332/6025/91>;
    The Debug ID is D1383198597.

  • Do you have a library proxy perhaps?

Dan: Can you look at the debug output from April 6? It sounds like a real issue with subsequent requests in Standalone, but I don't know what's going on (nor have I seen it myself).
  • Thanks in advance for your help.

I am new to Zotero Standalone and also Chrome. How and where do I install Zotero connector for Chrome?

    Thanks,

    LAW

note that this is still in alpha - not everything's working smoothly.
  • Doesn't work with Chrome...
    At all.

Does work with Chrome. For most of us. You can even connect Chrome with Zotero-in-Firefox, and jump on the Zotero Standalone bandwagon later when a stable version becomes available.
  • I recently downloaded Zotero standalone (version 2.1a3) and the Chrome connector (0.9.1). It has been working beautifully with Google Scholar, but suddenly it has stopped working. I must have loaded about 50 references from Google Scholar into Zotero using the Connector, when suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, I started getting the error message:

"Could not save item. An error occurred while saving this item. Check known translator issues for more information."

I hadn't don't anything differently, so I'm not sure why this suddenly happened. I tried restarting my computer. I tried restarting Chrome and Zotero. I checked the Known Translator Issues. My translators are "Up to Date."

    Please help? Debug ID: D51581028.
  • google scholar locks you out if you look like a robot - nothing to be done except to wait - the issue should go away automatically.
  • Ah. Gotcha. Thank you.

I couldn't wait until Scholar was ready to let me back in, so I just installed the normal Firefox version of Zotero, and Scholar seems to be working (at least for the moment) from within Firefox.

Thanks! At least if it stop again, I'll know why.
