PDF add-in has problems with PDFs stored in Zotero

I am using the Firefox PDF Plugin for Mac OS X 1.1.3 and having problems reading PDFs stored in my Zotero library. When I try to open the PDF Firefox begins to open multiple new windows, up to dozens, until I force quit it. I can download fresh PDFs from the web and they work just fine.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the add-in and it didn't help.
Any suggestions?
