Zotero FF and Standalone

I have been using Zotero for well over two years on a Windows XP machine, and I've never encountered a problem until this now, ... and it's a minor matter at that. But it is a little annoying. When I bring a properly structured item into my MSWord or Open Office document, I discover that possessives, such as Prosch's, for instance, gets converted into Prosch@s. In addition, dates, such as "Spring 1989-90", are converted into "-90", minus the quotation marks, of course. That is to say "Spring 1989" is dropped. This is happening in both the Standalone version of Zotero and the FF version. What is the problem here, and can it be fixed? Might it have something to do with the new word-processor plugins?
