First letter of the authors' name as citation

Hey all,
I am searching for this style or something similar, i have done some research on the site, but did not find any :
as seen in [kour88],..............
below i will detailed
one author: first 4 letters of name
two authors: first 2 letters of author1, first 2 letters of author2
three authors: first 2 letters of author1, first letter of author2, first letter of author3
four authors: first letter of each author
more than four authors: first letter of first four authors

after that two digits of the year. century-disambigution is ignored.

if the symbol is exactly the same for two references, a letter is attached.

examples:

[BiDB79] Biskup, J.; Dayal, U.; Bernstein, P.A.: Synthesizing independent database schemas. In: ACM SIGMOD 1979 Int. Conf. On Management of Data Proceedings, S. 143-151.
Could somebody help me with this,
Best regards,
Juliano

  • Thank you for your fast answer,
    i am searching for a style more easy, always use the same method :
    the first three letter of first the author plus the year as two digit.
    here an example :

    [Bis79] Biskup, J.; Dayal, U.; Bernstein, P.A.: Synthesizing independent database schemas. In: ACM SIGMOD 1979 Int. Conf. On Management of Data Proceedings, S. 143-151.
    Any idea ?
    Best Reagards,
  • the answer is the same, unfortunately.
  • Hi, I have a pretty similar question. The style needed consists of the first for letters of the author's last name, even for multiple authors. When there are multiple publications in a year, it should add a letterto the End, e.g.:

    Stjepandić, J., Sommer, M., Stobrawa, S. (2022). Digital Twin: Conclusion and Future Perspectives. In: Stjepandić, J., Sommer, M., Denkena, B. (eds) DigiTwin: An Approach for Production Process Optimization in a Built Environment. Springer Series in Advanced Manufacturing. Springer, Cham. https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-77539-1_11
    --> in text: [STJE22a]

    Stjepandić, J., Sommer, M., Stobrawa, S. (2022). The Commercialization of Digital Twin by an Extension of a Business Ecosystem. In: Stjepandić, J., Sommer, M., Denkena, B. (eds) DigiTwin: An Approach for Production Process Optimization in a Built Environment. Springer Series in Advanced Manufacturing. Springer, Cham. https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-77539-1_10
    --> in text: [STJE22b]

    in the pages linked in http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/ams_alphabetic, there seems to be some discussions about it, but I don't understand if there is any new functionality?
  • The only currently available method for customizing the label format is using the Extra field as described at the link above
  • Hey, sorry to undig this old entry again. I am now trying to use citation-label in the extra field, but when I add a citation in my word document, it still shows another style. Is there anything else I need to do to show the correct labels?
  • with which style and how exactly are you adding citation-label? This definitely works in general.
  • The style currently set in the document is APA 7th edition. I am adding the label by choosing a source in Zotero and then adding "citation-label: Smi01" at the end of the "Extra"-field. Then I try to add the citation by clicking "Add/Edit citation in the word plugin and choosing the reference to that source. Hope that descrition helps.
  • Right, citation-label doesn't appear automatically: it's a variable in the citation style and most citation styles don't use it.
    You can test with https://www.zotero.org/styles?q=id:din-1505-2-alphanumeric and if that works modify other styles to include the label.
  • That worked, thank you! Is using citation-label still the correct way to get to my desired citation style (first four letters of first author + year), or are there better methods now?
  • nothing new, this is still the only way to go.
  • Okay, thanks for your quick help!
