adding to sub-collection does not add to parent collection?

I'm not sure if this is defect or a new feature request. I am using FF 3.6.13 on Mac 10.6.5 with Zotero 2.1b2. I'm also a new user of Zotero.

When I add an item to a sub-collection it does not appear in the parent(s) collection(s) but does, reasonably, appear in the top-level library containing the collection tree. I have to manually drag the item to the parent(s) collection(s).

This behavior is counter-intuitive to me since a member of a sub-collection should logically belong to all containing collections.
