Word 97 plugin problem

I'm using Zotero 1.0.1 and Firefox 2.0.0.8, with Word 97 running on XP and the Word plugin 1.0b1. I've unzipped zotero.dot and put it in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\STARTUP. All the toolbar buttons appear when I start Word, but I can't get anything to work.

When I press the Insert Citation, Insert Bibliography or Set Doc Prefs buttons, I get the message 'Compile error in hidden module: Zotero'.

If I look in the Visual Basic Editor, the Zotero Project is shown as locked.

Please can you advise? And thank you for everything about Zotero - I think it's fantastic !

    Hmm ... I can't help but wonder if the problem might not be related to the fact that you're using such an old version of Word?

    Have you searched the forums to see if anyone else reported this issue?

    Thanks for getting back so fast.

    Yes, I did search the forums (search term "Word 97"). The only relevant note seemed to be Stickshark's post in General on 26 January about putting zotero.dot into the Office\STARTUP folder, which he said he hadn't thoroughly tested. Otherwise no-one's reported the issue - but I'd hate to have to upgrade from Word 97.

    The odd thing is that if I open the file zotero.dot from within Word, I can see (and even edit) the vb code using the vb editor. It's only locked when I use it with a normal document.
