Zotero crashing Word for Mac 2004

My wife got the following error message when attempting to add a citation in a style that uses any kind of 'note':

Zotero experienced an error updating your document.

COMMAND: app(u'/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Microsoft Word').make(new=k.field,with_properties={k.field_type: k.field_print_date},at=app(u'/Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Microsoft Word').active_document.footnotes[1].text_object)

The problem seems inconsistent but has crashed Word itself several times and (at times) seems to have lead to the corruption of the file (including once destroying all formatting information and inserting a lot of what appears to be zotero code directly into the text). Strangely enough, it also seemed to alter the file so that, even after it had been corrected, it could not be sent as a recognizable file over either gmail or an external harddrive. It was recovered eventually through copy-pasting the text into a new file but was quite vexing to deal with. Attempts at duplicating the problem resulted in the error message but not, it seems, the document corruption.

Cheers,
-M

We'd need a report ID to figure out what's behind the error, but the document corruption sounds like either a bug in Word or a failing hard drive. Since Zotero only directs Word to add fields to documents using public methods, and does not directly modify them in any way, there's very little we can do. We haven't received any other reports of this error, but you may want to check your disk using Disk Utility (instructions say Mac OS X 10.4, but should apply to 10.5 and 10.6 as well), or, if the issue continues to recur, consider upgrading to Office 2008 or 2010.
