Unable to save *any* citation

I'm a new user and I've tried saving citations from BioMed Central, Oxford Journals and Nature via the icon that appears on the address bar with no luck. I just get the following error:
"Could not save item
An error occurred while saving this item. Check <Known Translator Issues> for more information"

The link has no information :( Any idea what could be wrong? I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.8 on Linux.
  • For the record, I am getting the *exact* same behaviour after upgrading this afternoon. I have only tried using pubmed. Not much productivity for me this afternoon, I fear :o)

Additionally previously I have had a problem, with all sites, that processor usage ramps up to full & it takes a minuite or so before a citation is added to the database. I only have 184 items in my database, with an average of 2 attachments each.

Fully patched WinXP, FF 2.0.0.8, 1.5Gb RAM, LAN & ADSL & wireless connections, AVG antivirus, Celeron M 1.5GHz laptop.
  • Try using the Rebuild Translators Table button in the Advanced section of the Zotero prefs, and let us know if that fixes the problem.
  • Unfortunately not, even after rebooting & doing it twice...

I also tried rebuilding the full text cache to no availThanks for the reply, bte.
  • How about an article page on http://news.bbc.co.uk?
  • Articles from http://news.bbc.co.uk appear to work perfectly. Embedded RTFs also appear to work fine (e.g http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns19825.html).

I also can't index articles form Science Direct (e.g http://tinyurl.com/28e4nm).
  • Are you connecting to the academic sites via a proxy server?
  • Definitely at home (I connect to the uni's proxy to get access). Probably also via a transparent cache at university. That goes for all sites, no just academic ones, however. I will try and turn it off right now and see what happens (I'm at university atm, will check again later at home).
  • No change when not using the university proxy cache, but I suspect it's transparent while I'm here anyways. The setting was actually off anyway so last night when citations didn't work I was not using a proxy.
  • Be sure you've upgraded to 1.0.1 of Zotero.
  • Brilliant! Upgraded from 1.0.0 to 1.0.1 and all is now well. Thanks so much for this, it is really very much appreciated.

As an academic, Zotero has already surpassed Endnote for me. With the addition of more citation styles, or a style generator for the less computer literate members of faculty, I could see it being a serious challenger for other people in my field. I have already enthused about it to the person who trains undergrads & new post grads in the department in citation managers.

I shall report back if the previous problem with high CPU usage reappears.
  • Upgrading to 1.0.1 also fixed it for me. Thanks!

I have to agree with magsmanston, that even on paper Zotero blows the socks off my current combination of Endnote with Connotea. Which is why I was frustrated that I could not get it to work.

I'll now try it out in anger (or should that be joy?)... ;)
  • I'm having the same problem, but upgrading to 1.0.1 did not work. I'm working through a VPN, but I've been able to download from the site via a VPN before. I tried rebuilding the tables, nothing helps.

    Download from which site?
