German "umlauts"

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with exporting german umlauts. Two examples:

@book{kohler_handworterbuch_2007,
...
title = {Handwo?rterbuch der Betriebswirtschaft},
...
publisher = {{Scha?ffer-Poeschel}},
author = {Richard Ko?hler},
...
},

@book{preiler_betriebswirtschaftliche_2008,
address = {Mu?nchen [u.a.]},
...
author = {Peter Prei{\ss}ler},
...
},

As you can see, there is one fact exported correctly. Preißler was transformed to BibTex-conform Prei{\ss}ler. ö, ä, ü were switched to the letter followed by a questionmark. I'm currently using ISO-8859-15 as encoding. When I use UTF-8 ö, ä, ü are transformed to a cryptical "3-sign-composition" like ä for ä

I don't have a clue, what's wrong! Please help me.

    Then you're probably not opening the file as UTF-8.

    Yeah, that's right, but BibTex doesn't support UTF-8 so far, doesn't it? Why doesn't Zotero export all umlauts in BibTex-style properly?

    Others can comment with more authority, but some BibTeX tools support Unicode.

    You're probably still opening the file as something other than what it is. If you want everything replaced, use ASCII.
