Renaming items in Library?

It seems to be impossible to rename items in the Library. I have a PDF whose name is a number. I'd like to give it a significant name, e.g., associated with the author and title.

Can't do this? Not even before entering/retrieving bibliographic information?

    If it is already attached to its parent item (that has all the meta data filled in already), just right-click (PC) the attachment and select "rename file from parent metadata."

    Or, you can click on the file's name as it appears at the top of the right-hand frame and edit it there.

    Or if there's no parent item and the PDF has embedded text, you can right-click and try Retrieve Metadata for PDF.

    Thanks arggem and Dan. After posting I discovered "renaming from parent metadata." I've also been able to retrieve metadata for some of my PDFs.

    At this very early stage Zotero's appearing a bit opaque. Hopefully, that will change before long.
