things went [not so] smoothly, and then, no sync

Error ID: 96839782.

I set up zotero about 10 days ago. on my netbook, and it took me about a week to download my whole library, including groups. Agreed, it's quite massive (several GB), and it took me some figuring out conflicts which were inhibiting it: I uninstalleg the Bing Bar and ZoneAlarm ff extension.
Now, however, for several days, I haven't been able to sync at all. Sync starts, and then stops with a message containing either the error or advice to restart ff or windows (7 starter).
Is it ZoneAlarm (the suite, not just the ff extension) that's causing this trouble? I also have a bunch of extensions in ff.

I'd appreciate any help with this,

No need to ask—disable ZoneAlarm and/or your other extensions and try again. Something is interfering with Zotero, and there's no we can do about it (though the next version of Zotero will display a proper error message saying that Zotero is unable to delete a temporary file in its data directory).
  • Thanks!

Is there a list of software considered safe to use with zotero (i.e. doesn't cause errors)? I know I saw a list of programs/extensions that do interfere on the zotero site but can't locate it now.

    Cheers,

  • Thanks again for Your time, Dan :)

Disabling the firewall just for a moment during sync did the job just great. BTW, why does this problem persist, and is there any way to cope with it permanently?

That isn't exhaustive, though. Note that actual firewall functionality wouldn't cause this—it's some other component of ZoneAlarm that's interfering with deletes in the Zotero data directory by Firefox (e.g. ForceField, which is listed on that page as interfering with the Word plugin).
