Backing up Zotero online & accessing it from another computer

Hi everyone,

I would like to back up my Zotero collection, either online or offline, but am not sure what's the best way to do this. Can anyone help?

Also, I'd like to be able to access my Zotero collection from my home computer. Zotero is installed both on my home PC and on my work PC but I normally only add new references to my collection from my work PC. I guess I'll know how to do this once I know how to backup my Zotero online!

Many thanks in advance for any replies :)
  • You can use the built-in synchronization feature. See http://www.zotero.org/support/sync
  • Hi mronkko, thanks for your reply. I thought that the sync feature might be the solution I was looking for, but I was worried what happens if I use Zotero from a PC that has only been synced some time ago (e.g. my home PC) - will Zotero not update the online version to match that computer's version of the collection, meaning that I lose all the new changes that I've been making on my work PC? In other words, will it know that this is an older version of the collection and NOT sync, or will it assume that I've just deleted some entries from my collection and this is why they're not there (when in fact they are not there because the collection is out of date).

Hope this makes sense, thanks again for your help.
  • We are using the sync with a 11 people group library and many of us have multiple computers. The sync is pretty smart and this far we have not lost any data. It keeps track of what has changed and when.
  • I would strongly recommend an off-line back-up in addition to syncing:
