Moving items between collections and subfolders duplicates item.

I have set up a collection which now contains so many items that I decided to set up some sub folders and sort the whole thing into it's separate subjects. Problem is when I move an item it creates the new entry in the new subfolder, but leaves the original in place, if you delete the original the new item also disappears.

I didn't think this happened before, can anyone tell me how it is supposed to work!

Firefox 3.6.11
Mac OS X, Snow leopard, 10.6.4
Zotero 2.0.9
OO plugin 3.0.8a

Thanks,

Neil.
  • See if this helps:

generally, the first of your described behaviors
(is when I move an item it creates the new entry in the new subfolder, but leaves the original in place,)
is expected and has always been so.
    The second
(if you delete the original the new item also disappears)
only occurs (or only should occur) if you delete the item from My Library rather than just a collection.
  • I'm using a group library, I delete from the original location, rather than at the top level.
  • So just to clarify, the structure you have is
    Group Name
    ----Collection
    -----------Subcollection
    correct?

When you drag an item from the collection to the subcollection it copies (as it's supposed to) correct?
Now when you delete that item in the Collection (to be sure we're on the same page, right-click and select "Remove Selected Item" - it has to be "Remove" not "Delete") that item also vanishes from the sub-collection?
  • OK, thanks, I knew I was being a bit stupid! I think perhaps I deleted and not removed. I just tested what you just said and all is working!

    Many thanks for your help!
    Neil.
  • cool - in principle pressing the delete button on your keyboard while in a collection should have the same effect as "Remove" - but it will actually "Delete" when you're in a top level library - regardless of whether it's a group or My Library.
