Zotero word plugin desn't work in Word 2007

report id:1958992199

I don't know how to explain it.
maybe you can't reproduce on your PC
but I just install the plugin, restart firefox, try the add-in in word 2007, but it shows
Zotero experienced an error updating your document
  • word plugin 3.0a4
    zotero 2.0.9
  • Restarting your computer will probably fix this. If not, we're pushing a new version of the Word plug-in later today that will almost certainly fix this.
  • Now, with new plugin, the same problem occurs,

    plz help me~~Simon
    thank you very much~~
  • Do you have any security software installed? If so, does disabling it fix this error? Are you intentionally or unintentionally running Word 2007 with administrator privileges, or have you updated to Word 2010 (Click-to-Run install) at some point? These are the only known causes of this error. If the answer to these questions is no, this issue may be more difficult to track down.
  • Thank you, Simon.
But it doesn't work. I have tried to disable the security software, but no use.
"Word 2007 with administrator privileges", sorry, I don't know what it means.

it's so strange that if I new a document(click the "new" button in word 2007), the plugin works before I save the temporary doc to file system. But after saving the doc, the plugin fails.

Sorry, my English is not good, and I hope you can understand my meaning.
  • Does it depend at all on where you save the file or what you call it? What's the file name and the path (which you copy to the clipboard by right clicking the file, selecting "Properties", right-clicking the Location field, selecting "Select All", and then right-clicking the Location field again and selecting "Copy")?
  • Simon, you are so kind and considerate~~~
    Thank you, again...
My major is computer science. So in fact, you don't have to decribe it so detailedly. :)
I have checked the path and filename, and it doesn't depend on the path and filename at all.
All English characters, no non-English character(I am a Chinese).

I think you must be a software programmer with much passion and I really appreciate your selflessness.

I think maybe there is something wrong with my word 2007...But I hope you have more solutions.
  • I'm not sure if it's a problem with your Word install. I think there has been at least one other report of this issue, although I have never been able to reproduce it or anything like it on my test machines.

If you're willing to help us track this issue down, can you try installing both the Zotero 2.0 Branch XPI and WinWord Integration 3.0 Branch XPI from here, and then generate both a report ID and a debug ID when you try to insert a citation into a document you've already saved? This should give us all the necessary information to let us know where the problem is arising.
  • Simon,
    Thank you very much.
I am so happy to tell you that the problem disappears after I install WinWord Integration 3.0 Branch XPI . (version: 3.0a5.r7236; zotero: 2.0.9.r7080)
But I am also sorry that I can't help you to catch the bug...
As a programmer, I hate the bugs hiding from you.

When I find the problem again, I will ask for your help again and I hope I can find out a more detailed report at that time.

    Best wishes.
  • I did actually tweak something in the branch XPI in addition to adding the debug code. I didn't think it would fix anything if there were no non-English characters in your path, but it's possible it did. Thanks for the report, and post here if you see the problem again.
