More open API - Can this lead to a better wordpress plugin?

Could the new, more open API lead to better wordpress plugins? What I would ideally like is a plugin that looks like the following:

http://aobblog.com/bibliographies/arabidopsis/

Unfortunately this plugin works with mendeley, and I would find it much more useful to have a similar layout and output for a zotero group. Is anyone able and willing to make this?

Not exactly sure what you're looking for, but if it's just being able to pull a formatted list of references from Zotero into WordPress, that should be possible now. The new API support is for adding new references to a zotero account, and editing existing ones. Neither of those features are needed here.

I would like to see something more ambitious for WP and Drupal: ability to write posts or pages, but have embedded citations automatically formatted by the forthcoming citation formatting API, complete with embedded RDFa (so the references can be extracted from those posts/pages).
  • Bruce is right: there's nothing new that needs to be added to the API to support a simple dump of references. The ScholarPress team has already been working on a WordPress plugin for Zotero. They've also released a related PHP library which may be helpful.
  • Hmm... so it is possible, but just not made yet. I cannot get scholarpress to work properly and it is a bit too much for my intentions. I hope someone can make a plugin more akin to the mendeley one, if not I'll have to stay with that one for a while.

I have now tried scholarpress a bit more and found that it is too limiting as far as I can see. I do not want to "dump" my references in my wordpress blog. Instead I would like it to look at my 'zotero shared group' and dynamiccally integrate new references from there. Is this possbile with scholarpress and am I simply missing something or is this not possible at the moment?

What I would have loved is to have something like mit.citelinie.edu, but their zotz plugin appears to be broken. May have to look into this a bit more and see how this api thing works.
  • You can get atom feeds of group libraries that you can display on your website.

At the moment if you want a different format you'll need to handle that transformation yourself.
  • Bruce, is there anything like what you describe in the works? What would it take to make that happen?
  • @matt_price: Nothing I'm aware of. As for what's needed, someone to write a little PHP code.
  • Check out Zotpress, it might be what you need: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/zotpress/
