is there a way to grab pdfs directly into zotero?

hello there,

when using firefox (on a macbook) to research literatures, each time a link to a pdf comes up it open the pdf in Preview. Then to save it in zotero, we have to first save the pdf somewhere and then add a link to it for zotero or copy it in zotero. We'd like ot find a way around this and just save it directly through zotero, in order ot use zotero's note taking functions and to save time...is there some way to do this?
  • the easiest is to use the FF plugin for pdfs
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7518/
You can then use "attach snapshot of current page" to attach a copy of the pdf.
Otherwise I wouldn't know a simpler solution, no.
  • ok thus far the FF add on for pdfs has worked for grabbing pdfs directly from zotero- but we still cannot use the highlight and comment tools from zotero...is there anyway of doing this with pdfs?
  • no. Zotero calls external applications for pdfs, the annotations are for html only.
One thing you can do is to configure Zotero to open pdfs with Preview (see the launch non-native file description hidden pref here http://www.zotero.org/support/hidden_prefs#general_preferences ) Adobe Pro, Foxit, or any other pdf editor of your choice - you can then annotate (provided your pdf editor supports annotations). Since those annotations are saved to the file, they will sync.
